The Jewish culture embraces Judaism in belief and practice and it is rather an orthopraxy than a religion, although it is a religion at the same time. Jews are named for retaining linkage with their land of origin, for their pre-Roman vestige, Jewish history, community charity being practiced and their studying of Jewish texts.

There are several different events during the life of Judaism and filled with celebrations and rituals, which mark different stages of the Jews. Babies are named with different Jewish names which are an exciting event and task. The Bar Mitzvah, when you literally translate it, means “Son of Commandment”. When a boy is thirteen-years old, he becomes a “bar mitzvah” and by Jewish tradition, he will have all the rights off a grownup man. He will be ethically and morally responsible for all his actions and decisions. A special religious ceremony and celebratory party will be done and held for the boy who becomes a Bar Mitzvah. The boy himself will be studying for months and sometimes years prior to becoming a Bar Mitzvah.

Customs, rituals and rites are part of the Jewish culture and a mezuzah will be found on doorsteps inside a home as reminder to keep the laws of God. It is a parchment which is inscribed with religious text in a case. Modern Conservative and Reform congregations started ceremonies for girls called the “Bat Mitzvah”. Traditionalist Orthodox rejects the bat mitzvah completely. Marriage has events and rituals and not allowed on festivals or Sabbath and the matchmaking role still plays a big part.
